To day the Holy Orthodox Church remembers and commemorates a beloved pastor, a gifted poet, and a Christian example for our times, St. Nikolai, Bishop of Zhitsa, who laboured for the Gospel of Christ in North America.
“Born at Lelich in Serbia
You served as archpastor at the church of Saint Nahum in Ohrid.
Taking your place on the throne of Saint Sabbas at Zicha,
You taught God’s people and enlightened them with the Gospel.
You brought people to repentance and the love of Christ,
And for Christ you endured suffering at Dachau.
Therefore we glorify you, a new Nicholas well–pleasing to God.”
To all the members of the St. Nikolai Mission community there in Whitehorse:
Though I cannot be with you there in person tonight, I pray that you will be blessed with the peace and spiritual joy that comes from knowing Jesus Christ, as St. Nikolai did. I look forward to seeing you all this weekend!
Yours in Christ,
